The Kreuzberg in the Rhön is ideal for hiking even in winter. Well-prepared hiking trails, the unmistakable winter landscape of the Bavarian Rhön and several places to stop for refreshments make the Kreuzberg a popular destination for a winter day hike.
It is one of the last sunny autumn weekends this year. We want to take advantage of the great weather on Sunday to start another trip to the mountains. To avoid the hustle and bustle and the crowds as much as possible on such a beautiful day, we get up extra early and are on time for the first mountain ride at 8:30 a.m. at the Ehrwalder Almbahn, where our hike starts.
One of our favorite autumn hikes leads through the Griesbachklamm gorge near St. Johann in Tyrol. The tour is almost mystical in late autumn and above all particularly varied: after the wildly romantic gorge, it goes through autumn forests over two huts and two summit crosses with great views through a magical forest back to the valley.
The starting point of our short but beautiful hike is the Vintschger museum in the village center of Sluderno, directly at the bridge over the Saldur river. The tour leads to the Churburg, through apple orchards and along the Sonnensteig trail with its great views back to the village. The surrounding mountain landscape and the village of Sluderno are always in view.
Our tour started in gorgeous weather at the Salet pier at the far end of Lake Königssee in Berchtesgadener Land. To get to Salet, you take a boat from Königssee. These leave about every 30 minutes and the round trip costs 25 euros per person (effective October 2022). The lake crossing alone is picturesquely beautiful and the color of the water is truly incredible when the sun shines on it!
The hike up to the top of the Höfats would be an extraordinarily challenging hike, which even extremely experienced mountain sportsmen and women should dare to do. But: Does it always have to be a summit climb? How about a round trip instead? After all, the circular route around the Höfats offers breathtaking views of the mountain as well as several other Allgäu Alpine highlights and cozy places to stop for refreshments.
Hiking in the Taunus with children goes particularly well on the Wichtelweg. The route combines fantastic vantage points with exciting stories along the way, making it perfect for families. A free Wichtel fairy tale podcast can get you in the right mood for the hike while you're still on the trail.
Beautiful lakes are simply wonderful for swimming in the summer. Who doesn't love the refreshing cool down on a hot summer day? In Bavaria, there are numerous bathing spots waiting to be discovered.
Hiking is currently experiencing a real hype. No wonder, because exercise in the fresh air is not only good for
