With its unique nature, Upper Lusatia offers numerous excursion destinations that you can discover optimally while hiking – ideally directly in a short vacation. You can rarely experience forests, lakescapes and rare wild animals in Germany as undisturbed as here. But also in search of action and culture you will find it in Upper Lusatia.

Finding destinations in Upper Lusatia is not difficult – the area is so diverse that it is almost difficult to choose one. The Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape has been designated a biosphere reserve by UNESCO since 1996. There are 5,200 different animal species here, 1,200 of which are on the red list. The most spectacular are probably wolves and white-tailed eagles, which you can spot in the wild here with a little luck.

To help guests get to know and protect this unique nature, local rangers offer guided tours and excursions. Best of all, if you’re traveling with children, these tours are usually free.

But you can also explore the area on your own on the numerous hiking trails and nature trails. The special thing about Upper Lusatia is that it is more sparsely populated than almost any other biosphere reserve. Thus, nature has a lot of space and with patience and a trained eye you will see species here that have become very rare, not only in Germany.

We have put together three particularly exciting hiking tours with highlights from nature, culture and outdoor fun for you here.
