When you go on a one-day hike, make sure to take the right equipment with you. Then, even unexpected events won’t take away the fun. Additionally to the right wear, hiking boots and the right backpack there are a few more items you should not forget about. Tatonka gives you an overview on how to turn your one-day hike into a great event.
Choose your clothes according to the weather
First, it is important to choose your clothes according to the weather. As the weather might change quickly, especially in the mountains, it is best to dress in your functional wear keeping the onion-look in mind. This way you can take off some items when it’s warm but you are also ready to face colder weather. Functional wear with UV protection is obviously especially handy. If possible, protect the uncovered parts of your body with sunscreen and to protect your eyes from damaging UV rays, wear a cap or sunglasses. If the weather forecasts mentions rain, make sure to pack a rain jacket and rain trousers. Also, pack a rain cover for your backpack.
With ventilated back system, numerous practical features and, depending on the model, with integrated RECCO© emergency reflector.
Choose ankle-high boots for rough terrain
Your boots should provide you with sufficient stability and grip. When you go hiking in easy terrain, multifunctional boots or Light Hiker are recommended. However, when you decide to go for rough terrain, best get ankle-high hiking boots. In no case wear only casual shoes – these are not made for longer routes and don’t provide your feet with sufficient grip. And in case they rub your feet, having some blister plasters with you is very helpful.
Go for a hiking backpack
When you get yourself a backpack, go for a hiking backpack – not simply a daypack. Hiking backpacks are equipped with a ventilated back system and thus provide you with a higher carrying comfort. They are fixated with the help of hip straps and chest belts and thus stop flapping about while hiking. The light hiking backpacks by Tatonka with their optimal ventilated X Vent Zero Carrying System are a great choice.
Don’t forget a first-aid kit
Another important item is a first-aid kit which should among other things contain plasters, sterile wound dressings, tape, disinfectants and pain killers as well as blister plasters. This way, you can dress smaller injuries properly. We recommend First Aid Compact by Tatonka. Also, pack handkerchiefs. It is also essential to drink enough and take along some snacks and maybe even a lunch if you don’t plan on making a stop. When you strain yourself, you also need to bring in new energy.
Pack your wallet and mobile
Obviously, don’t forget to pack your wallet and your mobile in case of an emergency.
Many hiking paths are very well signposted but still, bring a hiking map with you on tour and, depending on your preferred route, you might even need a compass or a gps device. This way you will never lose direction.
As long as you keep these simple things in mind and are well prepared for your hiking tour, nothing stands in the way of a great adventure.
